Many homes & apartments built before 1960 have heavily leaded paint and homes/apartments built prior to 1978 may also contain paint with dangerously high levels of lead. Lead based paint can be on walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, furniture (hand me down cribs), children’s toys and even floors.
While paint coming off in flakes is an obvious culprit, lead-paint dust is just as dangerous and the most common lead hazard. Painted surface friction points, such as window frames and sills, create paint dust. Household renovation activities can also create high levels of paint dust. When a lead–based paint surface is broken, sanded or scraped, it breaks into tiny, sometimes invisible, pieces that children can swallow or inhale. This putting children at risk because toddlers spend so much time on the floor. Most children's lead contamination comes from unwashed pacifiers, hand-to-mouth behavior, or dusty stuffed animals.
Toddlers often are exposed to lead when they chew on woodwork, Only a small percentage of children actually eat paint chips, perhaps attracted by the slightly sweet taste of lead, so if you have a little nipper in your family, you'll be comforted to know that Painting The GTA uses paints containing Bitrex, a bitter-tasting, nontoxic ingredient to discourage oral contact.
At your next estimate we can discuss these options to protect yourself and loved ones from exposure to lead dust.
The paints we use to put a durable barrier between lead-base paint and the environment are non-flammable and biodegradable. ChildGuard is a fully certified encapsulant for lead-based paint, and is accepted as a permanent form of abatement. These paints can be tinted and are water based. Product supplied by
